NOVATO (KRON) — Fire fighters have contained a small brush fire that erupted in Novato, Monday evening.
According to Novato fire, the blaze broke out at 6:30 p.m. and reached up to 5 acres sending up a 1,000 foot smoke plume.
No damages were reported. but 15 homes in the area of Sunset Parkway and Shon Drive had to be evacuated.
One firefighter suffered first- and second-degree burns to the leg and was released from a hospital following treatment.
The fire was also burning close to San Jose Middle School.
Indian Valley Community College has been evacuated as a precaution.
