OAKLAND (KRON) — Berkeley health officials are investigating three confirmed cases of norovirus on the UC Berkeley campus Tuesday morning.

Out of an abundance of caution, health officials are working with the Environmental Health Sanitation Department to perform a deep cleaning of common areas throughout the campus.

School officials are also working with sororities and fraternities to help prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus by disinfecting areas.

In December, state officials issued a warning that the state was experiencing an increase in norovirus cases.

The symptoms of the norovirus include vomiting, diarrhea and nausea, and typically lasts up to 48 hours.

UC Berkeley officials say they are taking the case very seriously.
