LOS ANGELES (KRON) – Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department found no DNA on the knife that was discovered buried on O.J. Simpson’s old property in Brentwood, TMZ reported.

According to TMZ, a source close to the investigation said that LAPD detectives have finished testing the knife but produced no matches.

The source told TMZ that the microbes in the soil degraded any DNA to the point it was impossible to get a meaningful result.

A construction worker found the knife on the perimeter of the property then gave it to an off-duty police officer who never turned it in. Instead, he brought it home to keep because he believed the case was closed, according to LAPD.

The house on the property was demolished in 1998. It is unclear when the knife was found.

The knife came into light this past January when the retired officer told his friend about it who works for LADP.

LAPD has not announced the results, but TMZ was told the investigation is over.
