UPDATE 8:47 AM: The roads have reopened after a gas tanker hit a fire hydrant.
NEWARK (KRON) — The Newark Police Department and the Alameda County Fire Department Saturday morning are advising commuters to avoid the intersection of Newark and Cedar boulevards for the next two to three hours due to a traffic incident with a gasoline spill.
Police said a gasoline tanker collided with a fire hydrant, and gasoline has spilled onto the roadway near the 76 Gas Station at the intersection.
The incident was first reported around 6:30 a.m.
A hazmat team has been requested to the scene, and all roads leading into the area are closed.
Northbound Newark Boulevard is closed at Brittany Avenue/Ruschin Drive, westbound Cedar Boulevard is closed at Chapman Drive, southbound Newark Boulevard is closed at the intersection entrance of the Lido and Rosemont shopping centers, eastbound Cedar Boulevard is closed at Lido Boulevard and northbound Breton Drive is closed at Cedar.
