WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) — Another week means another chance for both the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump campaigns to make their case to voters in key battleground states.
On Monday, Donald Trump will hold an event in Ohio, while Hillary Clinton will campaign with Vice President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania. Mr. Trump’s running mate, Gov. Mike Pence, of Indiana, will spend most of his week campaigning in the Southwest with events scheduled for Nevada and New Mexico.
Do the numbers lie?
The Trump campaign spent the weekend fighting back against suggestions their campaign is beyond repair to win November’s general election. However, poll numbers released by several media and non-profit organizations indicate Mr. Trump’s campaign is far behind his Democratic rival, in some states by double digits.
In Florida, one of the most contested states in November, a poll from NBC News/Wall Street Journal showed Clinton with a 5-point lead. Elsewhere in the South, a poll in North Carolina finds Clinton with a 9-point lead over Trump. The North Carolina numbers are especially revealing when you consider it was a 1-point margin one month ago.
