For years, there’s been constant congestion along northbound I-680 in Alameda County.
And now, help is finally on the way.
Ground was officially broken Thursday for the new express lane that is expected to improve drive times on I-680.
Caltrans and the ACTC celebrated the groundbreaking of the new project from the side of the freeway. They were joined by local leaders, who welcome the corridor improvements with open arms.
The ACTC says this is the sixth most congested freeway in the Bay Area.
The new express lane will stretch nine-miles between Highway 262 and 84.
For people who choose to ride alone, using the express lane will come as at cost, paid for by using a FasTrak.
The project is funded with money approved by Alameda County Voters in 2000 and 2014. It’s expected to be completed by 2020.
