VALLEJO (KRON) — No charges have been filed in the dog attack in Vallejo last week. Police say a woman and her son were attacked in their backyard on Friday night — and are now in stable condition.
“It was very stressful,” said neighbor Dorris Hutcherson.
Neighbors heard screaming on Friday night in Vallejo and called 911.
When police arrived, they found three dogs on top of a mother and her 3-year-old child in the backyard of their home on Locust Street. They used pepper spray to get the dogs to back away.
“Once the dogs were away from the child, another officer was able to help the child out and then help the woman out,” said Jeff Tai, with the Vallejo Police Department.
KRON4 was told the woman attacked is the sister of the person who owns the dogs. Police say the woman let them out of the garage to go to the bathroom, when her child made his way outside without her knowing.
“It was described to me as, the dogs were playing, being playful at the time and at some point, the child got panicked or scared or something and fell down and that’s when the dogs started to attack the child,” Tai said.
The mom rushed outside to help — but was also attacked.
“They were just pulling on the baby and she was trying to protect the baby with her body so she was laying on the baby and they just drug her against the fence and everything,” Hutcherson said.
Police say the dogs involved are pit bull terriers.
They say the child sustained multiple injuries to his face and upper body.
