Police are searching for a woman who was caught-on-camera shooting off fireworks at people.
It happened on Monday night in Brooklyn.
In a video, you can see fireworks shooting over people’s heads and into a liquor store on Nostrand Avenue by St. John’s Place. In the cell phone video, you can also see a woman appearing to aim a roman candle at pedestrians scattering away.
She turns the corner and keeps going.
“Someone could’ve definitely gotten hurt,” Crown Heights resident Stacey David said.
This happened Monday night, but Crown Heights residents tell CNN these illegal fireworks shows are common around the Fourth of July.
“I’ve lived here 10 years, and it’s pretty consistent year to year,” resident Sam Schreiber said.
Sometimes, fireworks are shot in the middle of the intersection.
“They would run out, lift them, and run back while traffic was going,” resident Tom Janick said. “A few cars swerved. I think they got startled by it.”
The NYPD has been warning people against lighting illegal fireworks for weeks.
But when the Macy’s display ended Wednesday, lawbreakers kept lighting their own throughout the five boroughs.
Police tweeted these photos showing some of the hundreds of illegal fireworks confiscated this week.
Sources say investigators are still trying to identify this woman.
She could face charges of reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of fireworks.
