RALEIGH, N.C. (KXAN) — A 13-year-old boy whose baby brother died after being left in a hot car is speaking out to remind families to double check their cars during these summer months.
On Friday, 7-month-old Hakeem Mussa was left in the family car in Raleigh, North Carolina. The baby’s mother, father, aunt and 13-year-old Bilal Mussa all went inside the home but no one remembered to grab the baby out of the car.
“It was like 90 degrees outside and I had thought my aunt was going to take him inside from where we had come from, but she thought that I was going to take him in, but that had never been my responsibility. They usually let adults do it,” Bilal Mussa told WRAL.
The family noticed the baby was missing four hours later. The father found the baby in the car but it was already too late.
“I was crying a lot because, at this age, I never thought that I’d have to deal with something like this, but I’ve talked to a lot of people, a lot of therapists, and they said everything is going to be OK,” Bilal Mussa said.
Last week, a 9-month-old child died after being left in a car near Baytown, Texas.
