About 37,500 people were apprehended crossing the southern border into the United States illegally in August.
That’s according to a source familiar with the numbers.
The number was much lower at this time last year, but that’s because 2017 saw an unusually low amount of border crossings.
This year’s August data is fairly typical in a historical context.
Border crossings tend to drop in the middle of summer and pick up again in the fall.
