BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) – A prison employee at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola has been arrested after a shakedown Sunday afternoon at the front gate of the prison.
Department of Corrections Investigators say they thwarted Jeffery Day, 33, attempt to smuggle drugs into the prison.
During the shakedown, Angola officers found 4.8 ounces of marijuana and 3.6 grams of synthetic marijuana hidden in a Subway sandwich inside Day’s vehicle inside the prison.
West Feliciana Parish Deputies booked Day with one count each of possession with intent to distribute and malfeasance in office.
Day later admitted to the crimes and voluntarily resigned from the department.
He had worked at Angola since November 28, 2016.
He was a corrections sergeant at the prison.
The investigation is still ongoing.
