A North Carolina man’s runny nose turned out to be fluid leaking from his brain.

According to WTVD, Greg Phillpotts thought he was suffering from allergies and some doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and bronchitis.

It wasn’t until he saw a doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital that he learned it was a cerebrospinal fluid leak. Doctors performed a minimally invasive skully surgery that, according to WTVD, used a flap of tissue from another part of his body.

Doctors advise individuals who have a runny nose on one side of your nostril, have a salty taste associated with it and an intense headache to seek medical attention.
