MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WATN) – A Memphis man is behind bars, accused of stealing one date’s car, so he could take the woman’s God-sister out on a date.

Kelton Griffin is charged with theft of property. According to the police affidavit, about 3:00 p.m. on July 14th, Griffin showed up at the first date’s home to go out. During the date, the woman asked Griffin to drive because “she did not know where he wanted to take her.”

They switched, then police say Griffin stopped at a store, and asked his date to go in to get him cigars. When she went inside, police say Griffin drove off in her car. She called police, and according to the affidavit, she tried to call Griffin, who would not answer and deleted her from his social media sites.

Later that same night, the victim told police her God-sister had texted her that Griffin had asked her out and would be picking her up at her grandmother’s house. Police say the victim tried to stop Griffin, but he was able to drive off before she could.

A little later, police say the God-sister texted the victim that Griffin had taken her to the Summer Drive-In, and they were sitting in her stolen car watching a movie. The victim called police, who located Griffin and his date at the drive-in.

Griffin was arrested and charged. He was arraigned July 16th and is in jail on $10,000 bond.
