(KRON) — One may be the loneliest number, but now it’s also the most common number for Americans between the ages of 18 and 34.
The National Opinion Research Center says a record high 51 percent now say they have no romantic partner.
That’s up six percent from two years ago and 18 percent from 2004.
That’s a significantly higher number than other age groups.
Among 35 to 49 year olds, the percentage drops dramatically to 21 percent before rising again with age. The survey also found marked differences based on political affiliation.
Forty-one percent of Democrats said they had no romantic partner. Only 29 percent of Republicans said the same.
Overall, the survey found little over one third of all Americans had no partners. That number was lowest in the west and highest in the northeast.
