WACO, TX (KWKT) — A 34 year old man has been sentence to life in prison after being found guilty of possessing with intent to deliver just under one ounce of methamphetamine.

Daniel Benito Guajardo had been found guilty by a 54th District Court Jury in McLennan County Tuesday, with the punishment phase conducted Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office said he had a prior history in California which was used to enhance the charges as ” habitual” and bring about the harsher sentence.

The charges were the result of a  traffic stop on July 10, 2017 near 25th Street and Waco Drive.

A McLennan County Sheriff’s deputy made the stop of a 2004 Nissan Frontier for making an improper turn onto a one-way street and for having an obstructed license plate.

The driver was identified as Guajardo who had two passengers in the car.

The deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle, which was given, which led to the discovery of 26.2 grams of methamphetamine under the cup holder of the center console.

All three were taken into custody.

Guajardo was indicted on the charge of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver by the July 2017 term of the McLennan County Grand Jury.
