PITTSBURGH, PA (WCMH) — Heinz is ready to make America saucy again with a new controversial condiment.
Introducing Mayochup. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Part mayonnaise, part ketchup.
Heinz decided to roll out the product across the United States after asking people if they want it on Twitter. More than 500,000 people said yes.
“We know people have combined mayonnaise and ketchup for years and they are passionate about its name,” said Nicole Kulwicki, Director of Marketing for Heinz. “That’s why we’re asking America to share their suggestions, to ensure our version of this delicious duo gets the name it deserves.”
The sauce combines mayo, ketchup and a blend of spices. It will be available in a 16.5-ounce squeeze bottle.
Heinz is currently running another poll to decide where it will roll out Mayochup first. If you want it here in Columbus, you can vote on Twitter using the hashtag #MayochupColumbus. Voting ends on September 18.
Heinz says the city with the most love will receive a “food truck takeover complete with free samples of Heinz Mayochup … and, of course, fries for dipping.”
Combining ketchup with mayonnaise technically isn’t anything new. That’s how you make Russian dressing, Thousand Island dressing, and Shake Shack’s signature ShackSauce for instance.
Of course, there’s still the lingering question. Does Mayochup belong on a hot dog?
#Mayochup is here. And these saucy cities Tweeted #Mayochup the most. Vote for your city by Tuesday, 9/18 by 11:59 PM CST to be among the first to taste it.— Heinz Ketchup (@HeinzKetchup_US) September 17, 2018
