SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) — Google announced Friday it is suspending the app Parler from the Google Play Store.
Parler is an American microblogging and social networking service.
It has a significant user base of President Donald Trump supporters, conservatives, conspiracy theorists, and right-wing extremists.
“We’re aware of continued posting in the Parler app that seeks to incite ongoing violence in the U.S.” a Google Spokesperson wrote, in part, in a statement posted Friday.
They’re referring to the mob of President Trump supporters who violently attacked the U.S. Capitol earlier this week.
According to its website, Parler is a space to “speak freely” and express yourself without fear of being “deplatformed” for your views.
Apple has reportedly threatened to ban the application as well following the riots.
