(CNN) – General Motors is warning the Trump Administration’s proposed tariffs could force the automaker to cut jobs. The tariffs could also raise the price of cars, perhaps by thousands of dollars.
The warning came in a filing with the Commerce Department on Friday. It’s in response to potential tariffs for imported cars and car parts.
President Trump instructed the Commerce Department last month to start a national security investigation that would be the legal basis for those new tariffs.
Trump later threatened to impose 20 percent tariffs on cars from Europe if the European Union didn’t remove tariffs and trade barriers on U.S. goods.
