SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — In case you missed it, the first Friday of June is always the worst day to start a diet — especially if you have a weakness for doughnuts.  It’s National Doughnut Day and at least Bay Area baker is offering the tasty fried cakes for free.

Krispy Kreme is inviting customers to celebrate Friday’s doughy honor at locations throughout the Bay Area. Stop in and get free doughnut of your choice.

“Feel the love on #NationalDoughnutDay! A FREE doughnut of your choice, June 3 only in US/Can,” they tweeted.

National Doughnut Day was first celebrated in 1938 as a fund raiser for The Salvation Army in Chicago and to honor the volunteers who served baked goods to soldiers during World War I.

National Doughnut Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June.
