OAKLAND (KRON) — Authorities at the scene of a collision on I-580 in Oakland on Friday morning were forced to deal with an unexpected hazard when a streaker disrupted their investigation.

The incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. at the scene of three-car hit-and-run collision near Harrison Avenue. Officers were responding to a crash between a Lexus sedan, a Toyota Rav 4, and a third vehicle that left the scene.

At some point during the investigation, a naked man who was not related to the car crash, walked onto the freeway, according to CHP Officer Daniel Hill.

The man was detained with the assistance of an Oakland police officer who was driving past at the time, according to CHP Officer Daniel Hill.

“He was taken into custody and put on a psych hold by the OPD,” Hill said. “We dealt with him on the freeway and we stopped him from jumping over the overpasses.”

Pedestrians can be cited for walking into highway traffic but the CHP is unlikely to pursue charges against the man.

“There are laws concerning those issues, however the primary focus with a person in that mental state is not necessarily to take punitive action, but rather to make sure they get the care they need,” Hill said.

No one was injured in the collision, according to the CHP.

There was no description of the driver in the third vehicle that left the scene of the crash.
