MOUNTAIN VIEW (KRON) — Mountain View city officials announced they’re challenging people to come up with the best idea for an app that can improve the town.  The top three winners will win cash prizes.

The competition will go until June 1st and the individual or team to create the best app that will facilitate innovative ways for community members, local government representatives and service providers to engage with each other will win, city officials said.

“We live in a city of smart and innovative people. It just makes sense to tap that brainpower to identify a need and offer a solution to fill it,” CIO and Information Technology Director Roger Jensen said in a statement. “We’re looking for original, commercially viable ideas that will have a positive impact on Mountain View.”

Top prize is $2,000.  Second place will win $1,000 and third place will receive $500, and all participants must be 14 years or older.

Judges will announce the top ten finalists on June 15. After that, a community showcase of the top ten ideas will take place in August, and residents will get to vote on their favorite ideas, city officials said.
