One Colorado family is both giving thanks and mourning a beloved family pet.
They say a mountain lion snuck into their home while they were away and killed their cat.
And while they’re grateful that all the humans were unharmed, they’re sad about their feline friend.
Sometime last night a mountain lion snuck through a window into Kayla Slaughter’s house.
Fortunately, she, her husband, and their two-year-old son were gone.
Their roommate discovered the cat when she got home around 10:30.
“Yeah, she said it was terrifying,” said Kayla.
The family’s house cat Klondike was stuck inside.
Sadly she was eaten.
“She was mine and that is hard… that that’s the end that she had,” Kayla said.
Heartbreaking… but getting the lion out was an even bigger concern.
Wildlife officers shot beanbags at windows.
“It was kind of amazing. It was sort of like looking at a zoo exhibition, but you’re looking at a house,” said neighbor Jessie Frankel.
One hour became another and then another until finally the result everyone was hoping for.
“Came out the front door,” said Kayla.
The lion left, walking back down the street and into the wild where he came from.
An epic story, but one this family never hopes to live again.
“We’ll definitely be more vigilant with keeping our windows shut when we’re not here,” said Kayla.
