Motorcyclist dies on Highway 101 in San Jose, 2 northbound lanes closed

SAN JOSE (BCN) — A motorcyclist died on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcyclist was killed when he crashed into the center divider on 101 and landed on the roadway, the CHP said.

Officers responded to a report of a person on the road on northbound Highway 101 near North First Street and Interstate 880 at around 2:15 p.m., CHP officials said.

A man was driving a Harley-Davidson or a similar brand motorbike on southbound Highway 101 when he crashed into the center guardrail, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

The motorcyclist, possibly in his 60s, ended up in the far left northbound lane and was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.

Initial reports suggest the collision occurred when the motorcycle rider, who was traveling south, they crossed over to the northbound side of the freeway, according to the CHP.

It’s not clear what circumstances led up to the crash, Lee said.

A Sig-alert was issued at 2:46 p.m. closing two northbound lanes that were estimated to reopen by 4:30 p.m., CHP officials said.
