ANTIOCH (KRON) — A motorcyclist died in a collision after leading police on a high-speed chase from Pittsburg to Antioch Friday evening, Pittsburg police said.
A Pittsburg police officer first spotted the motorcyclist on eastbound Pittsburg/Antioch Highway near Arcy Lane at 6:20 p.m. Friday.
The officer attempted to stop the man for speeding but he fled, according to police.
He increased his speed as he traveled south onto Auto Center Drive. The officer terminated the pursuit because of the motorcyclist’s reckless driving, police said.
The motorcyclist then crashed into another vehicle near state Highway 4 and Auto Center Drive, more than a half-mile away from where the officer ended his chase.
The two people in the car he collided with suffered injuries and were taken to a hospital, but police expect them to survive.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately being released by police as of this morning.
The case remains under investigation by Pittsburg police.
