ALABAMA (AP) – Jurors took less than an hour to convict a 54-year-old woman of murder in the shooting death of her son’s boyfriend.

The jury reportedly rejected Anita Hill’s defense that she shot 36-year-old Jamie Johnson in the heat of passion. They chose not to convict her of manslaughter, instead opting for the more serious murder charge that carries a harsh sentence.

Hill was led in handcuffs from the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse on Thursday. She could face more than 20 years in prison.

Hill shot Johnson in the back after an argument at the Love’s truck stop off Interstate 20/59. She claimed that he had been abusive to her son, and that she snapped.
