Mother admits killing 2 young children, ages 7 and 3

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A mother admitted to killing her two young children and stabbing herself early Thursday morning in Montgomery County, according to authorities.

Montgomery County Sheriff Mark Casteel said 30-year-old Brandi Worley is in custody for the death of 7-year-old Tyler Worley and 3-year-old Charlie Worley.

First responders found the children dead at a home in the 200 block of S. Madison Street in Darlington around 4:30 a.m. The small town is about eight miles northeast of Crawfordsville and 25 miles south of Lafayette.

Brandi Worley confessed in a 911 call and again to responding deputies that she killed her children, Casteel said. “I just stabbed myself and killed my two children,” she said in the call, according to Casteel.

The children’s father was asleep in the basement and “unaware that these crimes were being committed,” the sheriff said. Casteel added that his office is not used to dealing with this type of traumatic situation, and law enforcement had no record of being called to the home for past issues.

Autopsies for both children are scheduled for Friday morning. Brandi Worley was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with a stab wound to the neck.

“I can’t imagine the pain and the grief that these families are experiencing this morning,” Casteel said in a news conference late Thursday morning.

“Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers,” he added, choking back tears.

Indiana State Police troopers are assisting with the investigation.

Sunshine Tipton, a Darlington resident, says she was shocked when she woke up to the news.

“I have a 12-year-old,” Tipton told 24-Hour News 8 sister station WLFI. “I let her play all the time, and I’m the kind of mom that I am worried all the time. But Darlington is a wonderful town, and for something like this to happen is just very unusual.”
