Mosque in Florida vandalized on New Year’s Day, bacon left at scene

TITUSVILLE, Fla. (AP) – Police said a mosque along Florida’s Space Coast has been vandalized, with lights and windows smashed by a machete and bacon left at the scene.

Officers in the city of Titusville said the vandal went to the Islamic Society of Central Florida Masjid Al-Munin Mosque on Jan. 1.

Surveillance video shows a man entering the mosque’s carport late at night when no one was there and using a machete to smash cameras, lights and windows.

According to a police report, detectives were unable to immediately identify the man.

But on Monday, authorities arrested 35-year-old Michael Scott Wolfe, of Titusville in connection to the vandalism, USA Today reports.

Police say the bacon was left by the front door. Consumption of pork and products made from pork is forbidden in Islam.
