VALLEJO (KRON) — A student caught trying to bring a dangerous object onto campus at Vallejo’s Jesse Bethel High School has renewed parents’ concerns about school safety.

According to an email sent out from the school principal, Linda Kingston, the Vallejo Police Department was called with a tip that a student would be coming to school with a dangerous object.

Kingston did not elaborate on what that object was, but said that she was able to intercept the student before he got to any of his classes.

The email says that when police arrived, the student was searched and they found the dangerous object. The student was then taken into custody.

In closing her email, Kingston tried to alleviate fears by saying that all gates surround the school have been closed except for one. She said that at that gate, the one on Redwood Avenue, there will be a Site Safety Supervisor on duty during school hours.

Some parents say that isn’t enough. One mom, who has asked to not be identified, has a daughter who graduated from Jesse Bethel High School in 2013. She says that her daughter was bullied so much at school that she almost dropped out.

She has a son that goes to the school now, and she says she is scared for his safety.

She worried what could have happened if the student had been able to get the dangerous object into a classroom. She says that a Site Supervisor posted at the Redwood Avenue gate is not enough to ensure that her son will be safe.

In May, 17-year-old Max Rusk was killed on a trail just outside of the Vallejo high school. Since his death, parents have come forward, asking school and district officials what they plan to do to make the school safer.
