VALLEJO (KRON) — A grieving mother is not giving up her fight to make Vallejo schools safer.
In May, Jamie Rusk’s son Max was murdered on a trail just outside of his school, Jesse Bethel High School.
Since his death, pressure has been mounting against the school superintendent and the school board. Parents from several campuses all say that the schools are too violent.
Rusk was one of just a few parents who went to a special meeting held by the Vallejo City Unified School District. The special session was held to evaluate the public employee performance of superintendent, Dr. Ramona Bishop.
Bishop has taken of lot of heat since Rusk’s death from parents who are concerned about the violence at Vallejo schools.
Just before the time for public comments closed, Rusk made it to the microphone to talk about school safety.
The meeting ended with Bishop quickly leaving without answering any questions.
As Rusk was talking to media who attended the meeting, school board member Raymond Mommsen walked by, telling Rusk “your son should have been in school.”
Rusk appeared shocked by Mommen’s actions and said that the comment was very inappropriate.
Other parents showed up after the meeting adjourned, upset that they missed a chance to voice their opinions about Bishop.
Ultimately, the school district’s governing board will decide what, if any, actions will be taken regarding Bishop.
