SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Spartanburg Co. mom is facing charges after deputies say she admitted to drinking nearly a dozen beers and trying to drive with two kids in the car.

Her boyfriend, the children’s father, is also facing charges.

Spartanburg County Sheriff’s deputies got a call to Jackson Street in Glendale just before 3 a.m. Tuesday for a child welfare check.

According to the incident report, a girl around the age of 10 knocked on a neighbor’s door, saying her mom and dad were drunk and fighting.

When deputies arrived, the girl came up to them in tears, saying, “they won’t stop fighting and they’re drunk”.

Deputies say that’s when they saw Chanda Gray, 26, pulling out of the driveway with two kids in the car, not in car seats.

They asked her to stop and talk to them. The report states Gray then staggered over, smelling of alcohol with slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and unsteady on her feet.

Deputies say she told them, “yes, I’ve had 10 beers and a few.” They also found three empty liquor mini bottles and an open beer can in the car.

Gray told deputies her boyfriend, 37-year-old Joshua Bragg, was drunk and they were arguing over a boat and that she wanted to get away from him. Deputies say Bragg admitted to being drunk.

They arrested both Gray and Bragg.

According to the report, when transporting Gray to the jail, she became extremely violent, unbuckled her seat belt and began to beat her head against the partition.

Deputies say there was also a 5-month-old baby in the house. They had Bragg call other family members to come take care of the children.

Bragg is facing charges of child endangerment and neglect of a child.

Gray is also facing child endangerment charges, along with a charge of committing certain vehicular offenses with a minor in the vehicle.
