WATERFORD, Michigan (WCMH) – A terrifying moment for a Michigan mother was made even worse when she says a 911 dispatcher refused to send her help when her child became locked in a vehicle.
“She knew twice she had two chances to send somebody and both times she didn’t,” Lacey Guyton told WXYZ.
Guyton says what happened last Saturday was terrifying.
She was visiting her grandmother, when she put her 2-month-old baby girl in the car, getting ready to leave
“The keys are in my diaper bag I put the diaper bag in the car, put Raina in the car and then shut door, and then all of a sudden it locks,” said Guyton.
She immediately called 911 and was surprised by what the dispatcher told her.
“We don’t send people out to unlock cars or break windows and that she could connect me to a tow company.”
Guyton knew she needed to get inside to save her baby.
“I saw her start to close her eyes and I just ran to the back window and smashed it open,” Guyton said.
Guyton says Waterford police officer contacted her to apologize, but she wants to set the record straight.
“They never had the chance to respond. Nobody told them. They didn’t know, and had they known I feel they would have definitely come out,” Guyton told WXYZ.
Guyton says she just overwhelmed by the amount of support she’s received from everyone.
“There’s been so many people reaching out to me; hundreds of people telling me their stories, thanking me for putting this out there.”
Both mother and daughter are both doing well after the incident.
