(BCN) – Firefighters in Menlo Park will be wearing special badges this year to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District will be 100 years old in June.

The 100-year commemorative anniversary badge will display a Maltese cross/eagle in gold for chief officers and in silver for firefighters and captains.

Firefighters and volunteers wore a smaller version of the Maltese cross/eagle style badge from 1916 until 1991, the fire district’s 75th anniversary.

At that time, the district adopted a larger shield badge. That badge has been used by the district for the past 25 years.

The Menlo Park Fire Protection District serves Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and other unincorporated areas of San Mateo County.
