MENLO PARK (BCN) — The San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District will conduct an adult mosquito treatment in a portion of Menlo Park on Sunday, district officials announced Thursday.
The truck-mounted treatment is scheduled for an area near El Camino Real and will start at 9 p.m. and conclude the following morning around 5 a.m., district officials said.
The area, which is primarily residential, is bound by Menlo Avenue to the north, San Mateo Drive to the west, Creek Drive to the south and Waverly Street to the west.
The announcement follows the discovery of West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes in samples collected in the area on Wednesday, according to district officials.
Once the treatment is complete, district officials will collect more mosquito samples to further check for West Nile virus.
If the virus is detected in the samples, additional adult mosquito treatments may be necessary, according to district officials.
West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito and the virus can’t be spread from person to person, district officials said.
