Forest officials announced Tuesday that a large area of the Mendocino National Forest, including the entire Upper Lake Ranger District and part of the Grindstone Ranger District, is shut down due to activity from the Mendocino Complex Fire.

Officials say the purpose of the closure is to “provide safety for the public and for firefighters.”

The boundary of the closure area begins at the intersection of County Road No. 301 and the Mendocino National Forest Boundary, then continues west and north along the Forest Boundary to where it intersects the Covelo Ranger District boundary on Long Doe Ridge.
