KRON—Hewlett Packard CEO and Republican donor Meg Whitman announced she is supporting Hillary Clinton.
Whitman said Tuesday she would donate money towards Clinton’s campaign in order to stop fellow Republican Donald Trump from becoming president.
Clinton reached out to Whitman about one month ago asking for her support, Whitman said.
The 59-year-old has ran for governor of California in 2010 and spent $140 million on her own campaign.
Whitman says she will ask her friends in the Republican party to also support Clinton. She says it is important for Republicans “to put country first before party.”
Whitman is a long-time Bay Area resident and lives in Atherton.
