SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf says that she’s been in communication with Raiders owner Mark Davis about the team’s future in the city during an interview with KRON4’s Mark Danon on Friday morning.  But, she reiterated that she is not interested in using public money to build the team a new stadium.

The Raiders are effectively homeless after the team withdrew its proposal to move to Los Angeles and move into a new billion dollar stadium with their rival San Diego Chargers.

“We’re going to work very hard over this particular year to get them the stadium that they want, but not with the direct tax payer subsidy,” she said. “We know we can get it done.”

Schaaf had previously said while Oakland is willing to underwrite infrastructure development on the site, at an estimated cost of around $90 million, and discuss the use of future potential development revenues, it will not commit existing public funds to a stadium project.

In a compromise, the National Football League is giving Oakland and the city an additional $100 million dollars towards working out a deal.

Schaaf also asserted her goal to see the Oakland A’s build a new baseball stadium along the city’s waterfront at the Howard Terminal in the Port of Oakland.

“There is a great piece of land that is kind of available to give back to the public use,” she said. “And I am really cheering on that as the site for an incredible waterfront ballpark with views of San Francisco and the bridge, and right on the water, and close to all that fun happening stuff in Jack London Square.”
