Today San Francisco Mayor London Breed will announce who she will appoint as the new public defender who will replace the late and longtime Jeff Adachi, who died suddenly last month.
Mayor Breed has appointed Manohar Raju to replace Adachi as the city’s public defender.
Adachi was 59-years-old and in his fifth term as public defender.
When Mayor Breed found out about his death, she said San Francisco had lost a dedicated public servant and the communities had lost a champion.
Everyone in the San Francisco public defender’s office were shocked to hear about his death, which is still under investigation.
Foul play is not suspected at this time.
She will announce Adachi’s replacement at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall.
