SANTA CLARA (KRON) — A 5-alarm fire ripped through a strip mall in Santa Clara Wednesday morning, according to fire officials.

At around 2:50 a.m., fire officials received a call about a fire in a restaurant at 3402 El Camino Real just south of Lawrence Expressway.

When firefighters arrived, they saw the fire has spread to a third of the strip mall.

The flames spread throughout the strip mall and eventually the roof collapsed.

Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to the rest of the building and extinguished it by about 7:30 a.m.

At least six business were completely destroyed by the fire. Exactly how much damage was caused by the blaze is unknown at this time.

The strip mall is nearly 50 years old so the building does not have any sprinklers. Firefighters are unsure how long the fire was burning before they received a call on it.

No injuries were reported.
