MARIN (KRON) — The thrill of the win has yet to wear off for soccer fans across the United States.

On Sunday, the U.S. women’s team won the World Cup against Japan by a score of 5-2. Now, soccer fans in the Bay Area, especially girls, are basking in what that victory means not only for soccer, but for women.

It was the most-watched soccer game in the country ever, and the one’s kicking the ball were women. So for some youth Marin soccer players, the U.S. Women’s World Cup victory was more than a win on the field.

“The Marin FC under 18 girls are inspired,” soccer player Alexandro Ridder said. “They’re practicing right now for a big regional tournament and have never been so focused.”

The women on that team are set to be some of the most marketable sports faces of the year. For the girls, it means their dreams of making it big are more reachable than ever before.
