MARIN COUNTY (KRON) — The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a man reported missing on or around Angel Island, according to Lt. Doug Pittman.
Police said a man with friends had his boat tied up off of Angel Island since Sunday night. At around 1 a.m. Monday, the man, possibly a San Francisco resident, was seen leaving his boat and he never returned. He was reported missing at around 6 a.m.
Marin County sheriff has tweeted the missing camper is 42-year-old Wouter Van Lier. He is Caucasian, about 6 feet tall, and 190 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Although Angel Island is a state park, Marin County sheriff has an agreement to lead search-and-rescue efforts. Tiburon and Sausalito fire departments are also assisting in the search.
Coast Guard officials say they’re deploying a helicopter to assist in the search.
