Marin City man who killed his mother sent to state hospital

SAN RAFAEL (KRON) — The Marin City man who was found to be insane when he killed his mother in 2013 has been committed to the Napa State Hospital.

24-year-old Carlos Aldana pleaded guilty to killing his mom, 44-year-old Rosa Aldana, in her home in 2013.

Marin County Superior Court Judge Andrew Sweet ruled that Aldana was insane at the time of the murder.

Deputy District Attorney Dori Ahana said that Aldana will be in the hospital for 15 years to live, unless he is restored to sanity and released.

On August 23, 2013 Rose Aldana’s boyfriend found her bleeding from multiple stab wounds when he returned to their apartment. A dog had also been stabbed to death.

After the stabbing, the California Highway Patrol was called about a man who was covered in blood while trying to board a Golden Gate Transit bus at Donahue Street in Marin City.

When U.S. Park Police found the bus in San Francisco, Marin County Sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Scardina said that Aldana was shot by police when he threatened them with a knife.

Aldana was treated at the hospital, and also spent time at a mental health facility after his sanity was questioned.

He was charged with murder, animal cruelty and assaulting a peace officer. With Aldana’s guilty plea, the two latter charges were dismissed.
