(KRON/BCN) — The Sonoma County coroner’s office knows the identity of a man who was found dead in the Russian River on Sunday morning but has not informed his next of kin of the death, a coroner’s office spokeswoman said Monday morning.
Two kayakers spotted the man’s body floating in the water near a sandbar 200 yards downstream from Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville around 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Sonoma County sheriff’s Sgt. Cecile Focha said.
The sheriff’s helicopter Henry-1 landed on the sandbar and recovered the body from the water. There were no signs of foul play or trauma and nothing suspicious about the death, Focha said.
An autopsy might be conducted Monday, she said.
