MONTEREY CO. (BCN) — A man who had a warrant out for his arrest led police on a brief pursuit through the town of San Lucas Saturday evening.

Around 7 p.m., a deputy saw Martin Zuniga, 50, driving in a 1995 Chevy Suburban on Highway 101 and realized the suspect had an active arrest warrant, sheriff’s officials said.

When deputies tried to pull over the vehicle on state Highway 198, Zuniga refused to stop and continued driving toward the town of San Lucas, according to sheriff’s officials. He continued to evade deputies for approximately three miles.

Zuniga finally stopped in front of his home at 53265 Main St. in San Lucas, sheriff’s officials said.

Despite Zuniga refusing to follow deputies’ orders, they were able to detain Zuniga and place him under arrest, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies found Zuniga to be in possession of a controlled substance as well as drug paraphernalia. Zuniga was booked into the Monterey County Jail, sheriff’s officials said.
