(BCN) — A man and teenage boy suspected of robbing a liquor store in La Selva Beach on Tuesday evening were arrested the following day in Watsonville, a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s spokesman said Friday.
Martin Paniagua, 18, and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of robbing El Patio Liquor Store at about 7:10 p.m., sheriff’s Sgt. Roy Morales said.
Paniagua was allegedly armed with a handgun that he pointed at a store clerk as both suspects demanded money, Morales said.
The teenage suspect then took money from the cash register, according to Morales.
Detectives were able to identify the suspects based on video footage from the store’s surveillance system and help from local officers, Morales said.
Officers served search warrants at the suspects’ Watsonville homes and arrested them, according to Morales.
They found multiple firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun, at the residences, Morales said.
Paniagua was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail and the teenager was placed into Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall, according to Morales.
