GILROY (KRON) — A man was taken to the hospital after being stabbed in the face during a fight Tuesday night.

That evening around 9:58 p.m., Gilroy Police Communications got several calls about an in-progress fight that was happening in the 300 block of Mantelli Drive.

When police got there, they found two men fighting. Once they got closer, they say that one of the men had been stabbed in the face.

The 21-year-old Gilroy man who had been stabbed was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was released later that same night.

The other man, identified as 24-year-old Jose Luis Lara, Jr. of Gilroy, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

After being medically cleared, Lara was taken to the Santa Clara County Jail and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Police think that Lara and the victim knew each other. They don’t know what brought on the fight and stabbing.

They do not think that the fight was gang related.
