SALINAS (KRON) — Police are investigating a possible gang-related shooting that left a father and his infant son injured.

At around 5:15 p.m. Monday, a 28-year-old man was driving a light-colored Honda Accord with his 6-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son in the area of Del Monte Avenue and Towt Street, about a block from Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School, police said.

The victim was stopped at the intersection, where a red or burgundy SUV pulled up next to him and someone inside asked him if he belonged to a street gang, police Cmdr. David Crabill said.

The man said he was not involved with a gang and drove away, according to Crabill.

A passenger in the SUV stepped out of the vehicle and shot at the Honda, Crabill said.

The victim drove nearby to Fire Station 4 at 308 Williams Road, where he reported the shooting and was treated for gunshot wounds to his ankle, wrist and shoulder, according to Crabill.

HIs infant son was also treated for a wound to the top of his head and other minor injuries from shattered glass, Crabill said.

The 6-year-old girl was not injured in the incident, he said.

The father and son were taken to a hospital, where they received further care, according to Crabill.

No arrests had been made as of this morning.
