SALINAS (BCN) — Police this morning are investigating a Friday night shooting in Salinas that sent an 18-year-old to the hospital.
The victim was walking to a friend’s house around 10:16 p.m. when he noticed an occupied vehicle parked on Elkington Avenue near Del Monte Avenue, police said.
The two suspects inside the vehicle approached the victim and asked if he was involved in gangs. The victim denied being associated with gangs, but one of the suspects pulled a handgun and shot at the victim from a few feet away, police said.
The victim was shot in the chin as he fled the area. Police said the suspect fired several additional shots at the victim, but the victim was only hit once.
The victim went to the hospital and was treated for injuries that were not life threatening.
Police described the suspects as two thin Hispanic males about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. They were wearing hooded sweatshirts.
