SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — The man that was shot dead while trying to sell a used cellphone over the weekend at a San Leandro gas station has been identified as a 32-year-old Redwood City father.
Daniel Carlos was killed in a shooting at around 1:15 p.m. at the 76 gas station on East 14th Street, near the Bayfair BART Station, according to Sgt. Ray Kelly of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Kelly said Carlos was trying to sell a used iPhone when he was shot.
Carlos was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim met the suspects through an online app called “Letgo” on which people list items that they want to sell, Sgt. Kelly said.
The suspects took off in a car and are still on the loose.
Sgt. Kelly said Carlos was a husband and father to a 5-year-old daughter.

Nothing will ever be more important to us than our users’ trust and safety. That’s why letgo includes things like user profiles, ratings, reviews and in-app messaging, which let you see who you’re talking to and what others have said about them. We also use a mix of human and artificial intelligence to help moderate our marketplace and we ask our user community to help by flagging content or others that raise concerns. When they do, we act quickly, including permanently blocking someone in extremely rare cases when that’s necessary.
