BERKELEY (KRON) — Police in Berkeley are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a man was shot and killed Thursday night.
Police received several calls at 11:58 p.m. reporting gunshots in the area of Mabel and Burnett Streets, police said.
Upon arrival, officers found the shooting victim, an adult black male, unresponsive.
The victim, who is a resident of Berkeley, was transported by the Berkeley Fire Department to the Alameda County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Police have not yet made any arrests.
Authorities do no believe that there is an immediate threat to the community. The shooting does not appear to have been random.
Police are asking for the community’s assistance with the furtherance of the investigation.
