Man killed in Oakland may have been in fight prior to death

OAKLAND (BCN) –A man who died near Interstate Highway 980 in Oakland early Saturday morning may have been involved in a fight prior to his death, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a woman screaming around 12:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, police said.


Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from multiple traumatic injuries.

Police said the man was transported to the Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

He was an Oakland resident according to police, but as of this evening, police had not released his identity.

Police said the man may have been involved in a fight near or within the 500 block of Sycamore Street shortly before he was found on Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Police said investigators are particularly interested in any witnesses or privately maintained video surveillance cameras that may have seen what happened.
